Envirowise Conference Programme 2009

Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th September

10.00 – 11.30

Envirowise and the Water Technology List will be hosting a seminar at The Energy Event which will focus on how businesses can reduce water bills by up to 50% by adopting a systematic approach to water management. The Energy Event takes place at the National Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham on 9th-10th September 2009.

The Environment Agency’s updated water resources strategy states that climate change threatens to reduce available water by as much as 10-15% by 2050. Water is an increasingly expensive resource with mains, sewerage and trade effluent charges, as well as energy costs all rising. According to Envirowise, reducing water consumption is an easy and inexpensive way to achieve cost savings. There may be potential for businesses to reduce their water bills considerably, with savings of around 30% on water and effluent bills realistically achievable for a business that has never examined its water use before, through the implementation of simple low and no-cost water management measures. Investment in water-saving technologies, such as those available on the Water Technology List (WTL) can increase savings to as much as 50%. The WTL also offers the benefit of up-front tax relief through the Enhanced Capital Allowance scheme on purchases from the List.

The Envirowise seminar will discuss the legislative and commercial drivers that affect how businesses manage their water use. It will help delegates identify ways to minimise water use by understanding where waste occurs in their businesses and how to reduce it. Those attending the seminar will also be given advice on WTL, the water-efficient technologies that are available on the List and the benefits that can be achieved through the ECA scheme, as well as ongoing savings on water bills.

The seminar will be of interest to all businesses, but particularly sectors with high water use such as manufacturing, chemicals, printing, food & drink, construction, hotel & restaurants and retail.
