ESTA Conference Programme 2009

ESTA in conjunction with CIBSE will be presenting six one hours seminars during the course of The Energy Event.

Weds 9th September

Seminar 1 - 10.00 – 11.00 CRC – the basics

ESTA/CIBSE will be discussing the basic elements of the Carbon Reduction Commitment directive and highlighting the stiff penalties which companies can face for non-conformance. This seminar will also cover the topic of creating an evidence pack. • Objectives of the scheme; Principles of ‘cap and trade’ carbon emissions trading;
• What is an organisation; Who is captured by CRC?;
• Qualification threshold; Base year consumption; What do you need to report and by when?
• Recycling of funds; Basis of ‘League table’ calculation;
• Early adaptors measures; Carbon Trust Standard; Voluntary half hour metering;
• Phase 1 – fixed price; Phase 2 – auction and capped national carbon emissions.
• Creating evidence packs to report; Penalties;

Seminar 2 - 12.00 – 13.00 CRC – a path to compliance

Having covered the basics earlier ESTA/CIBSE will now move on to advise on strategies for dealing with the Carbon Reduction Commitment directive. ESTA/CIBSE will be communicating its philosophy that businesses should act on the directive in its first year rather than risk the implications that poor performance may have on company and individual reputations.
• Approaches and strategy to get the best outcome for your organisation

Seminar 3 - 14.00 – 15.00 The fundamentals of energy management

With new people coming into the industry or with people being given new responsibilities involving energy there is always a need to cover the basics. Here ESTA will cover some basic areas of energy management such as site energy policy; completing a site energy assessment; implementing energy cost reduction programmes.
• Devising site energy policy; establishing the current position / base line;
• Reviewing what can be done; Energy Surveys;
• Setting up and implementing an energy and cost reduction programme;
• Understanding consumptions and monitoring impact of measures.
• Simple techniques of energy management – to get started.
